Total Worker Health PDC

The Southern Oregon Chapter and the Cascade Chapter of the American Society of Safety Professionals will sponsor a Professional Development Workshop on Total Worker Health 101 on May 12th from 9AM to noon. This three-hour course is offered at no cost by the Oregon TWH Alliance and financial sponsors of the Southern Oregon ASSP chapter. The class is taught virtually by Dede Montgomery, Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Sciences, OHSU and Liz Hill, SAIF Corp.

The purpose of the Oregon Total Worker Health Alliance curriculum is to create and provide consistent and reproducible training that is research-based and supports current practice. This course is targeted especially to occupational safety and health professionals, although occupational health nurses, physicians, and wellness and human resource professionals will also benefit from attending. The learning objectives of TWH 101:

  • Define TWH, key concepts and core principles.
  • Identify the five defining elements of TWH.
  • Discuss how organizations can effectively implement TWH.
  • Develop “next steps” applicable to your organization

Speakers

Dede Montgomery, MS, CIH

Dede has more than thirty years experiencing working as an industrial hygienist and safety and health professional.  For the last 15 years, Dede has supported the Oregon Institute of Occupational Health Science’s Outreach and Education Programs and provided industrial hygiene technical expertise to its research.  She is also the Outreach and Education Director for the NIOSH-funded Oregon Healthy Workforce Center. Dede has a BA in Biology from the University of Montana and MS in Environmental Health Sciences from University of Washington.  She is a Certified Industrial Hygienist. She is currently President Elect of the Columbia-Willamette Chapter of ASSP, and recently completed terms on ASSP’s Council on Professional Affairs and its Total Worker Health Task Force.

Liz Hill, MPH, CSP, CIH

Liz is the Total Worker Health Adviser for SAIF Corporation.  Liz has twenty plus years of experience in professional health and safety and a short stint of international health work.  Prior to working at SAIF, Liz worked in a variety of industries from oil and gas to higher education.  Liz has BS in Industrial Hygiene from Utah State University and a Master’s of Public Health from Oregon State University. She has designation as a Certified Industrial Hygienist and a Certified Safety Professional.  She is currently serving on the American Industrial Hygiene Association’s Safety Committee as an officer and on Total Worker Health Task Force.
